GOOD BOOKS

A small selection of the many books I've read over the years that have inspired and shaped me

DOUGLAS ADAMS

Last Chance To See

Probably one of the greatest books EVER.

Douglas also wrote some books about Hitchhiking that shows the earth and all it's upright inhabitants as they truly are. Mostly harmless

You may also care for his Dirk Gently novels. I know I do. No doubt

ISABEL ALLENDE

The House of The Spirits

Wonderful, wonderful book. Best first chapter ever and best last page ever. Brilliant

CHOGYAM TRUNGPA

Born In Tibet

Bought recently 2nd hand and read with love. A brilliant account of the end of the innocense in Tibet! I have since gone out and found out what Chogyam Trungpa did next... and it's quite a lot

Also Deeply recommended, any writings of Petrul Rinpoche. A small part of which can be found at the beginning of MUDRA by Chogyam Trungpa

YANN MARTEL

Life of Pi

Brilliant book. Possibly the strangest story ever and possibly the best

Highly, highly and deeply recommended to All to read

Christopher Dawes

Rat Scabies and The Holy Grail

I may be biased coz of my love for Rat, But, this book was THE most enjoyable, fascinating, funny, enlightening wondrous read Ever. An utter joy on every page. Brilliantly told

C.S.LEWIS

Out of the Silent Planet / Perelandra (Voyage to Venus) / That Hideous Strength

You've read all the Harry Potter books, finished reading Lord Of The Rings and done all the Narnia books. Now it is time for Lewis' Classic Sci Fi trilogy. All the more inspiring when you realize Lewis had these in the bag before his close friend Tolkien, had finished writing Lord of the Rings, 60 years ago!

also recommended; The Screwtape Letters

and whoever borrowed my Illustrated edition..Return what is MINE!

DENG MING-DAO

Chronicles of Tao. (The secret life of a Taoist Master)

Helps if you study Tai Chi before you read this. Or maybe it will inspire you to take up Tai Chi. Either way, the 2 are inseparable

Also highly recommended; 365 Tao (daily meditations)

OSAMU TEZUKA

Buddha (volumes 1 to 10)

Originaly released thru the years as comic books. Now compiled in 10 volumes

Adventures in a Meditation Center

This is a brilliant read, I bought 4 copies from The Healing Tree in Glastonbury to give away to Girl Friends and pass on because I thought it needed to be shared

PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA

Autobiography of a Yogi

Go Yoga, Go Yoga, Go Yoga! A Wonderful read and the only book that explains GENESIS with real understanding. Big in the 70's and still essential for modern life

Also recommended Yoganandas interpretation of the 4 Gospels

RICHARD BACH

Illusions / Jonathon Livingston Seagull / One / Running From Safety / etc...

All pretty good and highly recommended reading from a truly inspiring writer

The Bible?

It's all down to interpretation isn't it really!

Let's just please not make a religion out of it and spoil it for everyone else, eh

JONATHAN SACKS

The Dignity of Difference

(How to avoid the clash of civilizations)

A heavy but brilliant read. I kept underlining so many passages to steal to use in songs

Very inspirational and essential

I told you you wuz ill agin'!

JOLAN CHANG

The Tao of Love and Sex

also

Zest for Life (live disease-free with the Tao)

Jolan oh Jolan, where would I be without you. Two of my favourite books and the main inspiration for always wanting to ride my bicycle. Thank you Mr Chang

But for Heavens sake, when you read it, do it with a higher mentality than that of behind the bikesheds tittering. It's a Lot More than just holding your 'ching' in people! There's reason and method and so much more to understand, so read it every 3 years and you may start to understand.
